Join Student Protection Program Administrator, Scott Ahrens of The Department of Financial Services. The workshop includes a 40-45 minute PowerPoint with time for questions and answers along with brochures that individuals can take with them. Some of the subjects include are: filling out the FAFSA, grants, scholarships, and the various types of loans. We will also discuss how to determine the amount of aid you qualify for and some pretty great programs New York State has available for students to help them after graduation.
The Department of Financial Services (DFS) was created by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in 2011 to reform the regulation of financial services in New York, to keep pace with the rapid and dynamic evolution of these industries, to guard against financial crises, to protect consumers and markets from fraud, and to educate consumers concerning financial products and services, including student loans.
