Birdwatching for Beginners - A Virtual series with Belle Isle Nature Center & Detroit Zoo
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 05/09/2021
Did you resolve to become a better birder in 2021? Would you like to join the more than 45 million people across the United States that participate in birdwatching as a hobby? Do you wish you could name the birds that flock to your feeders? Join the Belle Isle Nature Center staff, local Audubon chapter members and other birding experts for a free, virtual, five-part “Birdwatching for Beginners” course. Each session can be taken individually or combined with others to develop your bird identification skills. We’ll cover everything from how to use field guides, apps, binoculars and spotting scopes; maintenance and enjoyment of your backyard bird feeders; and identifying common birds by sight and sound. Come join us to build your birding confidence and enjoyment. This series is intended for participants 12 years of age and older; students 12-17 must be accompanied by a participating adult. No experience or equipment necessary. We’re excited to share our love of birding with you! Participants will be sent a Zoom link for the class ahead of each class session and will be encouraged to share their own bird images, audio, and questions. If and when the pandemic allows, we hope to offer some optional, outdoors, in-person guided walks that adhere to current CDC and other health guidelines.
