Beginning Watercolor with Alan Lewis
Wallkill River Center for the Arts

This beginning watercolor class will be focused on producing finished work.  I have noticed that I have learned best when following along painting with an artist, so that is the approach this class will follow.  The first week will be devoted to materials, helping negotiate between all the different options, and what the importance of each element is.  First time students are encouraged to attend, and to bring whatever you have.  We will then produce a finished painting each week with a different subject, and returning students are welcomed.  The approach will be to paint fast and loose, to cover the basics of watercolor by doing them, and hopefully to have some fun. Sunday Mornings 10am – 12pm at Wallkill River School

Surrogate Mother Requirements

What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a modern and growing means of bringing new life into the world, where a woman carries a baby for another person or a couple. The intended parents undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), meaning fertilization outside of the body, to transfer an embryo into the surrogate mother’s uterus. In our work at ConceiveAbilities, surrogates are not genetically or legally related to the baby and are compensated for their time and service by the intended parents. In 2018, more than 10,000 births took place by surrogate in the United States, and the market is steadily growing at 15% per year based on data from the Centers for Disease Control. And, in the past ten years, the percentage of all IVF transfers that took place with a gestational carrier grew from just over 1% to 4.8%.

What Are Surrogate Requirements?

In order to ensure that surrogacy can be a healthy and successful experience for you, the basic requirements include your age, your experience with prior deliveries, and your medical history.

The basic requirements include

  • Have you given birth before?
    • A history of at least one full-term, health and uncomplicated pregnancy is essential to ensuring your surrogacy journey is healthy and successful.
  • How old are you?
    • At the time you are matched with intended parents, you should be between 21 and 40 years of age.
  • Where do you live?
    • Compensated surrogacy is legal in most, but not all states. And, certain locations are highly valued by intended parents and you can earn higher compensation.
  • Are you a long-term US resident?
    • The surrogacy journey is lengthy and is accomplished only by working with a US-based IVF clinic.
  • Are you physically healthy?
    • You must have an uncomplicated medical history, not be over- or under-weight, not currently smoke, and be free of certain chronic conditions.
  • Are you emotionally healthy?
    • Your surrogacy journey is demanding and requires a stable foundation in your life without undue stress.

Join a Band!
Bach to Rock Nanuet
Join a Band at Bach to Rock!

*We are actively forming new bands!*

*All instrumentalists/vocalists welcome.*

*Some experience required.*

*For ages 7-18 years old.*

The special excitement about music training at Bach to Rock comes from playing together in a band! Our professional band coaches bring years of experience in teaching students to play together, make great music and have fun doing it. At B2R, students are placed in compatible bands according to their age, interest, and ability. Bands are usually made up of three to four players and a vocalist (who may also be one of the band’s instrumentalists).

Like playing in a sports league, belonging to a band supports teamwork and positive social interaction. The achievement of mutual objectives during band lessons builds self-esteem, while the opportunity to perform in public at various B2R concerts and compete in Battles of the Bands brings peer recognition, encourages healthy competition, and results in a strong sense of personal accomplishment.

We believe that playing in a band is one of the best parts of being a musician. In an effort to pair your child up with a band that fits their personality, ability, and interest, all first-time band students will have the opportunity to try our band program free of charge!

Make Mindful Moments Teen Workshop 10/16/22
Make Mindful Moments

Mindfulness Workshop for Teens (ages 11-16)

Mindfulness is described as an intentional awareness of our thoughts and feelings, which then lead to our actions.  Life can be uncertain with all we are responsible for, including personal, professional, social/emotional, financial, and family.  Practicing mindfulness allows us to focus and live in the present, instead of dwelling on the past or becoming anxious about our future.

This mindfulness workshop is designed for teens ages 11-16 as an introduction to this form of calming relaxation.  It is run by WCSD school psychologist Jessica Corcoran.  Participants will start and end the workshop with a short guided meditation.  Other activities include learning some of the fundamentals of the practice of mindfulness, making relaxation calming tools, learning easy and basic stretches and chair yoga, specialized relaxation coloring, books about mindfulness, making vision boards, learning about positive affirmations, breathing techniques, gratitude exercises, self-care skills, journal writing, and more.  Individuals will take home a journal filled with strategies, activities, games, and information on how to implement mindful strategies into daily life.  Participants will be provided with a journal, writing utensil, and all activity materials.  Opportunities for additional workshops may be provided to expand on skills.

Date: Sunday October 16, 2022

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Place: River Valley Arts Center- 9 South Mesier Ave. Wappingers Falls, NY 12590

School of Rock Performance-Based Music Programs Rock Socializing— With Social Distancing

Kids have been inspired in the School of Rock community for the last 8 and half years, learning music by playing music– together. Through programs designed for all skill levels, students go from lessons and rehearsal to performance– developing confidence, talent and teamwork skills along the way. Students, ages 7 to 18 engage in a private, one-on-one lesson. Those weekly lessons come with a bonus: the chance to be a rock star. Once enrolled, students become part of a band as well, and play in a socially distanced rehearsal each week. Bands are determined by skill level and age. They practice together for a season (about 4 months) and then play a show. This unique approach allows students to use what they learn from their teacher in the real-world setting of a band, comprised of their peers. They learn to rock on stage and in life.

School of Rock community members also have access to our one-of-a-kind, fully integrated Method app. The App provides an enhanced learning experience and reinforced practice schedule. Parents and students know what should be worked on and progress can be tracked.

Programs—Something For All Ages

Learn how to incubate and hatch chicks AT YOUR HOME: we will provide all equipment, fertile eggs, educational materials and individualized coaching for a stress-free, magical experience!! Seems like such a simple thing… not much to it… but the benefits of allowing a child – especially in urban/suburban areas – to experience the fascination of accompanying the development of an egg into a small chicken (and possibly beyond!) can be astonishing and are impossible to measure. We believe such experiences foster a deep respect and gratitude towards Nature, animals, and our “daily food”. This is a seasonal, fully-supported program, by which families or groups (seniors/clubs) sign up to incubate and raise chicks for the first weeks of their lives (possibly longer if the participant is up for it!)
