Have you ever wondered just how or why those hiking trails got where they are? Join Dylan Medici, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Ecosystem Stewardship Assistant to learn all about hiking trails and tools. We will do a little much-needed maintenance around the Park Preserve, including on some less-used trails. You can learn how to crush rocks with ease, swing a pickaxe like a pro, and move heavy boulders with nothing but your brain and a lever. Volunteers should dress appropriately for working outdoors in the summer. Bring plenty of snacks, water, and sunscreen. Boots, a hat, and long pants are recommended. Work gloves, a hard hat and safety glasses will be provided, but bringing your own is recommended. This program is appropriate for adults and children over the age of thirteen, accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. All unvaccinated participants are encouraged to wear face coverings and keep a minimum six-foot distance away from others who are not part of their immediate household. Additionally, all unvaccinated visitors are required to wear a mask when inside buildings. Meet at the Sam’s Point Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required by calling Sam's Point at 845-647-7989.
