Explore fossils and learn about the amazing scientist Maria Matilda Ogilvie Gordon, one of the first female geologists whose groundbreaking work inspired Molly to pursue her own career as a scientist!
Molly Poniatowski is a middle school science teacher who always seeks out scientific adventure. With a background in geology, she spends her summers working with a paleontology team to discover fossils and assist in developing research. She has flown planes, saved oysters, and even participated in NASA Space simulations – all in the interest of learning all she can. Molly wrote a children’s book, Maria and the Mountains that Told Stories, that tells the story of one of her favorite scientists, Maria Matilda Ogilvie Gordon, and her adventure to never stop learning, exploring, and asking questions.
NextGen STEAM is the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum's program where kids meet diverse professionals from exciting STEAM careers — scientists, engineers, artists, and more! Hear inspiring stories, learn what motivated these experts to pursue their paths, and get a glimpse into their daily work. Each session features a hands-on activity or craft that ties into the profession, offering a fun and interactive way for young minds to explore potential passions. It’s the perfect opportunity to spark curiosity and be inspired by the leaders of tomorrow!
