Weekend of Wallkill on September 22 & 23
Mark your calendars and come to the 8th Weekend of Wallkill (WOW) on September 22 and 23. Vision of Wallkill invites all neighbors and residents from beyond to this fun, family-friendly community event taking place on or near the Wallkill Public Library Lawn.
Free admission to the public, WOW is a celebration to welcome the Fall season starting on Friday night and the Weekend of Wallkill Fair on Saturday.
Friday’s events kick off at 5:00 p.m. with the Lego Building Contest at the Wallkill Public Library, followed by a Harvest Egg Hunt on the library lawn. Health enthusiasts and those new to yoga are invited to reserve a 7:00 p.m. spot for a free 40-minute Chair Yoga session at the Shawangunk Town Hall. The Weekend of Wallkill Art Show will also be taking place in the Town Hall lobby between 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Artists who wish to participate in the art contest can submit their artwork along with a $5 per art entry by contacting VOW.
From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, the Wallkill Public Library lawn will be bustling with Saturday’s Harvest Fair where everyone can participate in various contests including the Floral Centerpiece Design, Dog Costume, Billy-Goat Bingo and Remote-Control Car Race. Bring your own remote control car or rent one for $1 a race. Get yourself or your teams ready for these friendly competitions.
Children and adults of all ages can also take part in the Wonka Wonder Show, and paint patterns with Wallkill Rocks. Back again this year children can take part in the Mad Scientist Scavenger Hunt, enjoy a pony ride for $2, discover Touch–A–Truck, and fawn over adorable farm animals at the Petting Zoo. You can also try the basics of Pickleball, a sport gaining popularity across the nation at the demonstration. The entire day will be a shopper’s delight with many Hudson Valley craft and food vendors present, so be sure to stop at the ATM before heading to the Hamlet of Wallkill.
WOW will also be a day to meet and greet community partners including Ulster’s local leaders at the Potato Peeling Contest, and listen to local historian Bob Mooney’s presentation. Around town, shop sustainably at the Golden Rule Thrift Shop. End the evening at Popp Pavilion along the Wallkill River with a steak dinner put on by the Wallkill Lions Club (contact a club member for tickets) and cap it off with a Fireworks display.
Make Weekend of Wallkill an annual tradition and share on Facebook and Instagram your “WOW” moments with #visionofwallkill and #weekendofwallkill. Contest rules, entry forms, vendor applications, a full list of all WOW programs and other upcoming events are available on VOW’s Facebook and Instagram pages or www.visionofwallkill.com.
