Crossing Boundaries: Material as Message
Oct. 7 – Nov. 25, 2018
Crossing Boundaries: Material as Message exhibit will focus on empowering people to become part of the change we need to see in the world. Needed now more than ever, these artists create powerful commentaries, rich in color and texture that are both provocative and confrontational. The art on view addresses political, social and environmental issues, illustrating how the spoken word is often not enough.
Opening at Rockland Center for the Arts this October, Crossing Boundaries prioritizes social justice, solidarity, feminism and environmental issues while striving to encourage people be a part of the solution. In the words of artist Joyce Scott, “An artist should never underestimate what they do.” This exhibit exemplifies the role five individual voices can have on the world and the enormous power of art to break through barriers, convey a message and empower.
Crossing Boundaries features five artists in the mediums of Glass, Ceramic, Metal, Wood, and Fiber; Nancy Azara, Mitch Lewis, Joyce Scott, Adrienne Sloane and Kebedech Tekleab.
We invite you to join us to experience these extraordinary artists in Crossing Boundaries: Material as Message, on view Oct. 7 – Nov. 25. There will be an opening reception, Saturday, Oct. 13th, 1:00 – 4:00pm. Regular hours: Monday – Friday 10:00 – 4:00 and Saturday and Sunday 1:00 – 4:00pm.
