This program will focus on the process of storytelling through documentary filmmaking. Participants will learn interview techniques to draw out a compelling story from subjects as well as the technical skills needed to record and edit films. The subjects of our documentary will be the everyday people in the local community.

Documentary Filmmaking will enliven participants’ curiosity of the world around them, and reveal that all people have histories, hopes, and dreams that are not always apparent or amplified. They will learn that one does not need to be famous to have a compelling story to tell about their life, where they came from, and what they do. Participants will uncover and celebrate these stories.

Along with experiencing the creative process of storytelling through someone else’s life, participants will gain some of the technical competencies needed to make a film, including interviewing, audio recording, camera work, video editing and post-production.
