Aisholpan is a 13-year-old striving to overcome 2,000 years of history to become the first-ever female eagle hunter in northwestern Mongolia. In this most remote part of the least populated country on earth, eagle hunters are living examples of an exquisitely preserved tradition steeped in a deep respect for nature, forming deep, lasting bonds with the giant birds. With the support of her father and grandfather—and more than her fair share of steely determination—Aisholpan captures and tames her own eaglet and trains for the annual Golden Eagle Festival. Her next step is to hunt the animals that are vital to her people’s survival in the frigid winter, which will prove that she and her eagle can do anything the males can. Full of breathtaking photography of the Mongolian landscape, this is a spellbinding true story of female empowerment in a culture that’s deeply entwined with the natural world.
